Negative Processing of Experiences: Stress
In the negative processing of experiences in the brain, regions associated with stress and anxiety, such as the amygdala, are activated. This structure is key in the fight or flight response and can trigger a cascade of negative emotional reactions.
Additionally, the brain may experience increased activation in areas related to emotional memory, which can lead to rumination and repetition of negative thoughts. This type of processing often involves an increase in the release of cortisol, a stress hormone. Together, these processes can maintain and reinforce negative experiences in the mind and make it difficult to emotionally adapt and make constructive decisions.
